Eco-School

Recycle! We are an environmentally-friendly school and have been awarded Green Flag Status. We have an eco committee which is made up of elected members of each year group.

The eco committee meets regularly to discuss how they can improve our school. Throughout the year the eco committee have been involved in organising a community litter pick, clearing the overgrown environmental garden, bulb planting in the school grounds, collecting DVD’s and CD’s for Barnados. We also recycle paper and plastic, and encourage people to walk or cycle to school to save on emissions, therefore reducing the carbon footprint. Our Eco Day will raise awareness throughout the school and the committee make signs to display around the school to encourage and remind people not to waste resources and electricity.

Committee members for 2009/10 are as follows:

Eco School Event in Peterborough

Some of the Eco Committee visited the Eco School Event in Peterborough recently. There were a variety of activities and stands to help us understand how we can help the environment. We entered competitions, collected stickers, badges, bags and information and had a good time. We also visited some workshops where we made our own seed packets and filled them with seeds and help create an environmentally safe beach and playground out of plasticine.

Randalls Farm

The Bumblebees and Butterflies enjoyed a day out at Randalls Farm, an environmental centre.

We enjoyed pond dipping, doing a sweep of grassland and identifying the creatures we caught.

We enjoyed lunch outside and were keen to continue our day.  We made nature bookmarks and talked about the food chain.

We arrived back at school weary, wind blown but full of our day's adventures.

The Ladybirds enjoyed their Eco Day by junk modelling using recycled packaging and bulb planting.
