The eco committee meets regularly to discuss how they can improve our school. In the early stages of the committee, the children made a presentation to council members about setting up a recycling collection for our school as although we had been recycling paper and plastic for some time, we had been taking the recycling home and adding it to our own bins. We now have a fortnightly collection. We have planted 30 new trees and have a fantastic environmental garden where the children have grown their own fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Exciting News!
We have been awarded £26,500 to enable us to install solar panels on our roof and on a pergola which will generate solar electricity to help power our school. This will be a very exciting project and we are very grateful to Gareth Ellis for his hard work, not only in applying and winning the award, but also for managing this project. More information can be viewed by visiting the cut your carbon web site.
The Eagles visited the materials recycling centre to understand and see for themselves how this process works. They were intrigued by the machinery and learnt how the different materials were segregated. They all had a good time and would be happy to inform you of the many facts they have learnt.

Eco School Event in Peterborough
Some of the Eco Committee visited the Eco School Event in Peterborough recently. There were a variety of activities and stands to help us understand how we can help the environment. We entered competitions, collected stickers, badges, bags and information and had a good time. We also visited some workshops where we made our own seed packets and filled them with seeds and help create an environmentally safe beach and playground out of plasticine.

On16th September we had an eco day at school. All the classes took part in a variety of activities.
Robins Class: Planted their outside pots with pansies, worked with seeds, saplings and trees. They also did some work on apples which included tasting and printing!
Wrens Class: Thought up, drew and wrote about Eco Aliens. They also made bird feeders using seeds and fir cones.
Owls Class: Following on from their study of snails, they looked at mini-beast habitas and how they can be affected or destroyed by humans.
Herons Class: Continued their work on bicycles looking at the environmental advantages to cycling rather than using the car. They produced leaflets and posters encouraging people to use bikes.
Eagles Class: Who were also entertaining our German visitors, were very fortunate to have 2 visitors - Erika from the Greensand Trust and David Sedgely. They talked about hibernation using a powerpoint presentation. All the children made a bug hotel - a safe place for mini-beasts to hibernate! They also examined owl pellets and identified the bones they found.
