Owls

Owls

Owls are taught by Mrs Drawbridge and Mrs Myers.  We are the last stage of Key Stage 1 and we aim to improve on all of the skills learnt in Robins and Wrens as well as build on these skills and prepare you for the beginning of Key Stage 2.  Owls take the Statutory Attainment Tests (SATs) during this year.

Handwriting continues to be an important part of our work across the whole curriculum.  Weekly handwriting tasks will be carried out and then we will be striving to improve and correct our letter formation in all of our subjects.  During this year we begin to read and understand a wider variety of texts and this is enhanced by our weekly comprehension tasks.  Spelling is an important part of our writing and we will have spellings to learn each week and then we will be tested on a Thursday.  We will be learning to recognise key words from sight.

Our numeracy skills continue to build and we take on a very practical approach to solving problems in groups and individually.  Learning multiplication tables and number bonds become an important part of our skills and we will be learning to recall these quickly to help with other areas of our numeracy.

“Learning Logs” are our weekly tasks to be carried out at home.  These tasks will always compliment a subject area that we will have been working on in the classroom.  They are a chance to shine and demonstrate the new skills and ideas we have been introduced to.

PE takes place on a Thursday and Friday, but you will need your PE kit in school every day.

Values continue to be part of our ethos and are displayed in our classroom.  We have a reward jar where we can earn jewels for our work or demonstrating our Values.  When the jar is full we decide on and enjoy a whole class treat!
