School Parliament

The members of our school parliament meet on a regular basis. They discuss any issues that the children in school might have and things they might like to achieve/change in school.  They help to raise funds for school activities and other worthwhile causes.  They raise funds in many different ways, for example selling cakes or running stalls at school functions.

The children in school know that they can talk to any of the parliament members if they have an issue they feel needs to be addressed by the parliament or if they have a good idea for the parliament members to consider.

The parliament is made up of children from Dragonflies and Butterflies.  The parliament members for 2011/12 are as follows:

Joe Guinn - Dragonflies Y4 (Chairperson)

Eboni Phillip - Dragonflies Y4 (Secretary)

Olivia Jephson - Dragonflies Y3 (Treasurer)

Thomas Leaver - Dragonflies Y3 (Vice-Chairperson)

Matthew Wilkins - Butterflies Y2

Molly Aldred - Butterflies Y2

Caspar Butterworth - Butterflies Y1

Niamh Holbrook - Butterflies Y1

The parliament members recently helped to install a 'buddy stop sign' on a bench in the playground.  All children in school know that if they want a friend to play with they should sit on the bench and someone will come along!

This academic year the parliament members have been involved in the following:

Children in Need Day: The parliament members arranged a non-uniform day with a spots and stripes theme.  Everyone donated £1.  There was also a colouring competition and a 'choose a Pudsey square' competition for a £1 donation.  Everyone in school enjoyed a visit from Pudesy Bear!

Christmas Fair: The parliament members oganised a ‘donate a present in a cup’ stall for the fair.  Parents were asked to put a present in a cup, wrap it up and indicate whether the present was suitable for either a boy or a girl. Parliament members helped to run the stall at the fair.

Christmas Shoe Boxes: Parliament members helped Mrs Wolfe organise a ‘Christmas shoe box’ assembly and encouraged everyone to donate shoe boxes.  In total 45 shoe boxes were collected, which is a fantastic achievement!  Parliament members enjoyed helping to put the shoe boxes in the collection van when it visited school.

During the next few weeks the parliament members will be thinking about ways in which playtimes can be made more enjoyable.  They will also be thinking about ways in which we might be able to raise money.
