Viking Day

Herons, Eagles and Dragonflies finished their work about the Vikings with a Viking day at Greenfield.  Everyone dressed up, even the teachers.  We were visited by the Viking Thorulf Hammrsson (courtesy of the living history company, Portals of the Past) who told us everything we needed to know about Viking Life.  In the afternoon he showed us how to use our weapons, savagely killing a melon before leading us on to the playground to re-enact a Viking battle behind our wall of shields.  Everyone learned lots and had great fun at the same time.  Thank you to all the parents who entered into the spirit of things and produced costumes, shields, swords and battle-axes.

Eco Day

The Dragonflies had a very busy eco-day this year. We spent the morning finding out about different ways that we can help to protect our environment. We used recycled materials to create a Viking warrior for a display in our classroom and we also went litter picking around our school. In the afternoon we used recycled materials to create some exciting new clothes ready for our fabulous fashion show in the afternoon.

The Butterflies had a very exciting Eco day.  In the morning we went for a walk in Folly Wood, Flitwick.  Our guide was Mrs Burkett who was very knowledgeable on everything within the wood, from fungi, trees, frogs and squirrels and a lot more besides! In the afternoon we designed our own gardens on a plate.

The Ladybirds enjoyed an action packed Eco Day, which was great fun!  We planted bulbs and herbs in our wonderful, new garden; we had lots of fun watering them, and we are now all enjoying continuing to keep our garden well watered!  We really enjoyed mixing paints to create autumn colours, which we painted onto colour charts.  We then walked around the school field looking for these colours, which we stuck onto our colour charts.  We later made musical instruments using the junk modelling and collage materials in the classroom.  We also enjoyed listening to stories about how we should look after our world.  We all had a great day!

Also during the afternoon the parents/grandparents were invited to a Macmillan coffee afternoon and an opportunity to wander around the classes.  The Eco day ended with an assembly with all the classes exhibiting their work they had produced during the day.

Harvest Assembly

Our Harvest Assembly was very successful with all the classes performing various poems, songs and plays. Thank you for all your contributions of tins, produce etc. which were boxed up and delivered to the elderly within Fieldside Road.
